Woman’s Mirror 28th May 1966

This Woman’s magazine features Diana Rigg on the cover and there a feature on her inside. There is also a feature on John Bates who designed for Mrs Peel during the 1965 season of the Avengers. You could send in for a dress designed by him. Nice full page colour advert for the first issue of children’s comic TV Toyland.

Television Stars Book Circa 1967

This Television star book is a veritable who’s who of TV stars of the year containing photographs or features off or on: The Saint, I Spy, Batman, The Man and Girl from U.N.C.L.E., Emergency Ward 10, The Human Jungle, The Munsters, The Power Game, The Avengers, The FBI (This is of interest to 77 Sunset strip fans as it is about Efrem Zibalist Jnr who stared in that), Take your Pick, Double your Money, The Prisoner, Morecambe and Wise (This features a photograph of Sean Connery visiting the lads on set), Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Supercar, Fireball XL5, Stingray, Thunderbirds, Bonanza, Honey West, Dr Finlay’s Casebook, The Baron, The Big Valley, T.H.E. Cat, Peyton place, Man in a suitcase, Public Eye, Lost in Space, The Virginian, Daktari, Get Smart, The Fugitive, No Hiding Place, Redcap.

There are several books or annuals of this type in the collection, but none have quite as an impressive selection of so many of this type of Cult TV show within their pages.

Published by Purnell & Sons ltd, no year is given but given the contents this has to be from around 1967.

David Tomlinson / Richard Vernon Autograph

Autographed photograph from an episode of  “Playhouse” entitled “A Friend Indeed” dating from 1973. Produced by Anglia TV.  

David Tomlinson was best known as Mr Banks in Mary Poppins, he did very little TV work mostly working in Disney movies, he did guest however in an episode of Hawaii Five-0.

 While Richard Vernon was possibly best known as the planetary designer Slartibartfast (designer of fjords) in the BBC radio and TV series The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. He had small roles in both the James Bond movie Goldfinger. The Intelligence Men with Morecambe and wise, and guest starred in The Avengers, The Saint, Department S, William Tell, Emergency Ward 10, No Hiding Place, Hadleigh, Dixon of Dock Green, Maigret, Z cars, U.F.O., The Persuaders, The Adventurer, to name just a few of his many appearences.

This LP was published on the Hanna-Barbera Records label in the USA and features the Avengers themes as well many other Johnson composed pieces.

17 press negatives of various Mrs Peel Avengers episodes. These are large square copy negatives probably for press usage.

SFX magazine Aug 2015. Features a Man from U.N.C.L.E.  cover with feature on the new movie. Also feature on new Mission Impossible movie and small piece on spy shows including U.N.C.L.E., Wild Wild West, Mission Impossible, Flint, Matt Helm, The Avengers, Alias, Danger Man and Get Smart. Also a feature on James Bond in Spectre.

TV Tornado Comic No 64 Avengers cover

Issue 64. Dated March 30th 1968.

1960’s children’s comic. Features both text and strip stories relating to many classic TV series of the period.

This issue features John Steed of the Avengers on the cover, but next to no Avengers content inside. Tarzan’s adventures continued in a two page strip story “The Curse of Evil”. This weeks Text Man from U.N.C.L.E. story was “The Killer Bag Affair”. Issue includes a full page black and white advert for a Captain Scarlet offer on Sugar Smacks, while the Saint’s adventures continued with two pages of a strip story “Flight to Freedom”.

Old England Pocket watch

An old England pocket watch in Green and Orange, with a green suede fob. Orange face to the dial. As well as the watches directly marketed as being Avengers products, many Old England watches were also used by Mrs Peel at various times. This one features very prominently in publicity photographs.

Old England Watch

An original 1967 Old England wrist watch  as issued in relation to the Avengers TV series. The strap , box and label are also all original 1960’s . Normally the watch face would have the Avengers printed on it, but this example does not.
