Pearson TV Picture Stories comics

Pearson in their T.V. Picture stories series of comics published six Hawkeye titles, all published at a price of 10d in the UK these were also published in Australia for 1/3d, these were:

La Salle’s Treasure

Revenge!

The wild one

The Reckoning

Each title in the series had a full colour photographic cover.

USA Dell Comic

In the USA Dell comics produced a full colour comic in 1958. With a photographic cover and published at a price of 10 cents this contained two stories False witness and Powder Keg.

Painting Book

A Hawkeye, painting book was published by Black and Stratton. This 16 page colouring book had captions under the illustrations, which told a very loose story. While the cover was a photographic image.

Trading Cards

At least three trading card sets, that feature more than one show, do include images from the series as part of their sets.

The set of 36 Kane’s ATV Pocket Packs included at least two cards featuring Hawkeye. The cards in this set had to be cut out from the back of the box, and are incredibly hard to find in any form, though it is particularly hard to find as a complete box.

Likewise, the firm Snap cards included a card in the series ATV stars series 1, which on card no 31 showed a portrait of the shows two stars.

Tv Personalities, a set of 25 cards by Mister Softee ice cream included two cards in its set. Card no 3 showed John Hart as Hawkeye, while card no 15 showed Lon Chaney Jr as Changachook.

Sweet Cigarettes

Sweet Cigarette Packs were issued by Kane Products Ltd around 1957. No indication of cards being issued in packs, and no trading card sets relating directly to the series have been seen. 

 

UK Annuals

The publishing company Adprint produced two Hawkeye and the Last of the Mohicans annuals. The first  in 1958, priced at 7/6d, this hard-backed annual which should have a paper dust jacket, featured a photographic cover and was written by Michael Holt, with illustrations by George Shaw. 

The second annual published in 1959, had an illustrated cover and featured stories written by David Roberts, while the illustrations were by R.S. Embleton. This was also published at a price of 7/6d.

There is a third Adprint annual for the series, the cover of which shows Hawkeye and Chingachgook paddling downriver in a canoe on its cover, but a copy of this has not yet been added to the collection. 

 

UK Storybook

A Hardback storybook was produced by Purnell and sons Ltd in 1957, this featured a photographic cover and contained the story The stubborn Pioneer by John Paton, the book is beautifully illustrated with colour drawings throughout by an uncredited artist.
